The aftermath of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki was horrible. Many people were civilians whom the only wrong deed was being existent in their homeland. If anyone survived the atomic bombings, they were going to be sick, disabled and discriminated for the rest of their lives. There comes a question of whether or not the bombings were necessary.
From the American perspective, I believe that it did save some American people and money. Also, I think that by ending the war early, it would have saved other innocent lives that were suffering from the Japanese. Additionally, after a long period of war, people around the world were probably sick and tired of the war. Obviously, the atomic bomb would be more cost effective and America will have a chance to show off their new destructive bomb.
However, concerning the ethical issues, the atomic bomb killed off too many innocent people. I think that the second bombing in Nagasaki was totally unnecessary. The first bombing in Hiroshima had already done enough damage and when Russia declared war on Japan afterwards, Japan probably was at the stage of thinking of surrender. Considering that the second bomb was only dropped three days after the first bombing, it also kind of makes me wonder if the bombings were a pure military purpose to make Japan surrender. It also seems like some kind of experiment on the innocent people. I think that although the first bombing on Hiroshima can be controversial, the second bombing in Nagasaki was totally unnecessary.
